ABLE

(Action for a Better Life)

ABLE is a registered charity that provides supported accommodation for adults experiencing mental health difficulties across Wiltshire.

Mental health is an integral part of everyone's wellbeing, and individuals may experience changes in their mental health at different stages of their lives. People respond to these challenges in different ways, and in some cases, they can lead to significant emotional distress that requires appropriate support and intervention.

For over 40 years, ABLE has been committed to providing safe, supportive homes within the community for adults with mental health needs.

We deliver person-centred support that combines practical assistance with emotional encouragement, empowering individuals to develop their independence, build confidence, and achieve the highest possible level of self-determination and wellbeing.

Our principles

Accommodation

We provide and maintain comfortable, safe, secure, and well-equipped accommodation across our Registered Care Homes and Supported Living Services, creating environments that are valued, enjoyed, and actively used by the people we support.

Our accommodation and support arrangements are flexible and responsive to individual needs, enabling people to remain in their home for as long as possible, even where their health, wellbeing, or support requirements change over time.

We are committed to promoting independence, choice, dignity, and inclusion, while fostering positive relationships within each household. We encourage mutual respect, tolerance, compatibility, and domestic cooperation to create a harmonious and supportive living environment for all residents.

Positive change

We promote a culture of positive growth and development, supporting individuals to build confidence, develop new skills, increase their independence, and make informed choices about their lives.

We actively encourage and enable individuals to participate in the day-to-day running of their home, fostering a sense of responsibility, ownership, inclusion, and personal achievement.

Independence

Our aim is to empower individuals to exercise choice, control, and independence in their daily lives, enabling them to achieve the highest possible level of self-determination. We provide the emotional, practical, and person-centred support required to help each individual develop their skills, confidence, and ability to live as independently as possible.

We actively encourage and support individuals to engage with their local communities, develop meaningful relationships, and access community facilities, services, and opportunities that enhance their wellbeing, inclusion, and quality of life.

“I was delighted to see it more resembled a 'normal' house rather than an institutional block!

The staff have been wonderful in supporting him to be more independent. They have worked hard to look after his mental and physical wellbeing.

I highly recommend your company and particularly the premises and staff at King Street.”
